Colombo, July 23, 2024 — For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, representatives from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) convened in Colombo for the 30th plenary meeting of the Technical Committee on Tea (ISO TC 34/SC 8). The event, hosted by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) with support from the European Union, focused on setting new global standards for tea production.
Discussions during the meeting covered various topics, including new testing methods for tea quality, classifications for different tea types, and updates on good manufacturing practices. Dr. Siddhika G Senaratne, CEO of SLSI, stated, “Sri Lanka is honored to play a pivotal role in setting international standards that ensure the quality and safety of tea worldwide.”
